baggage, bucks, and bangs

I leave for Japan on Monday and have been doing little things here and there to get ready to go. I packed my bags a few weeks ago before heading off to LA to say goodbye to my friends and get my Visa. I left my two large bags and guitar with my friend Christina so I don't have to pay the extra baggage fees twice (Phoenix to LA and LA to Okinawa). I'm taking a lot of stuff but was actually pretty impressed that I was able to fit everything I need for a year in Large, Medium, and Small suitcases and a backpack.

I got a 27,000 yen from the bank yesterday, that way I don't have to hassle with currency exchanges when I get into Japan... getting that much made me feel rich, but it is only about $300 worth. :)

I got a haircut today and decided to try the whole bangs thing... I'm still getting used to it but I think I like it. Its something different to try with everything else thats changing in my life in the next few days.

My road-trip was very fun and it was great to see family and friends before my 11 month hiatus from everything familiar. We took family pictures a few days ago and I'm glad to have the recent pictures to look at while I'm in Japan.

My next post will be from Japan when I get there... I'm sure I'll have a lot to write about and lots of pictures to share! :) I hope you're all having a great August. Please pray for safe travels for me. I leave the evening of the 17th and arrive mid-morning on the 19th.
